How to photograph shoes for an evidence discussion

Consistent, readable views are more useful than dramatic close-ups.

Prepare the scene

Use a plain background and soft, even light. Clean the camera lens. Keep filters and aggressive sharpening off so other readers see the details clearly.

Cover the whole pair

Show both shoes, lateral and medial sides, heels, outsoles, inside labels and the box label. Include close-ups only after establishing the wider context.

Explain the question

Identify the detail you want people to examine. Say whether an image is yours or a permitted reference, and keep source attribution attached.

Redact before upload

Remove addresses, order IDs, account names and payment details. WebP compression is an image optimisation step; it is not a reliable personal-information redaction tool.
